I started my commercial real estate career as the first employee of a multifamily-focused family office, joining shortly after it launched. I learned commercial real estate underwriting from the ground up: rebuilding T12s, sourcing deals, and understanding how financial statements tell the story behind an investment opportunity.
I served as the firm's sole underwriter, evaluating more than $2 billion in multifamily acquisition opportunities, with a primary focus on 100+ unit apartment communities across the Southeastern United States. The firm closed more than $100 million in multifamily acquisitions, including multiple LIHTC portfolio transactions. I also managed investor relations, including capital raises, investor distributions, and quarterly reporting.
I later moved into industrial real estate as an investment analyst at a mid-sized firm focused on small bay industrial properties in South Florida. While there, I completed my B.S. in Accounting and eventually brought the firm's accounting in-house, managing the full accounting cycle for their portfolio.
Model The Deal and DealDuo were built on lessons learned through my real-world experience as an underwriter. Every model is built to be simple and easy to follow. Nothing is hidden or unnecessarily complex. The principles that guide my approach to underwriting, accounting, and asset management flow into the software, tools, and templates on this site.
